Hacienda Santa Rosa – BUENoS AIRES

Hacienda Santa Rosa Buenos Aires, which is up to an elevation of 1100 to 1800 metres above sea level, is located in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. The farm is dedicated to the cultivation of several varietals like Bourbon, Typica, Mundo Novo, Pacamara and Geisha.

Meet Gustavo Alfaro

Gustavo Alfaro is the 4th generation managing Hacienda Santa Rosa. But he is far away from being a typical Guatemalan coffee producer. After graduating from the University of Guatemala, Gustavo went on to Chile for further studies and later to become a biochemist in South Africa. A series of family events brought Gustavo back to Guatemala. Gustavo experiences his farm as a peace of natural art – no wonder he dedicated an impressive meters high mural painting to his farm. You can admire this peace of art at the entry of his farm.

What’s special?

Gustavo Alfaro believes, that nature finds the best ways to create a sustainable landscape by itself. The lots are divided according to their position on the farm in order to give a specific identity to each lot. The farm is surrounded by shade trees in order to protect the flora and fauna. The topography and limestone composition of the mountains, together with the warm air from the Tehuantepec peninsula, provides the farm with a unique environment for specialty coffee production.

Gustavo Alfaro

“Leave nature like it is. It’s like a peace of art. It will follow its own rules. You just have to make sure, that you listen to it correctly.”
